One of the most traumatic experience in life is when you are divorcing a narcissist. Some people don't make it out alive. But, there are things to do while divorcing a narcissist.
Many of us blame ourselves because the marriage didn't work; the reality is it takes two people to make any relationship work.
Forgive yourself first, then work on forgiving them and others. Forgiving yourself is part of spiritual growth and healing.
Sharing your experience may be hard because there is shame or guilt. Sometimes the best thing to do when we are hurting is to find others who can understand our pain. There are support groups such as divorce care.
Supportive people can help you carry your burden and give you emotional support during this time.
Do you remember the crazy making or gaslighting? Well, if you're not careful, they will use this technique during the divorce. Their goal is control and to drive you crazy. Do not fall for it. Find ways to maintain your peace and calm, focus on getting healthier and happier. They won't know what to do.
The best advice my attorney gave me was to document, document, and document. Keep records of everything, and keep it objective. Sometimes it's hard when they are throwing daggers your way. Fighting back gives them fuel for their fire.
Always be the bigger person and stand your ground, but do not give them something that can be tossed back at you and hurt you.
It is hard to believe that the person you once loved and you thought loved you back can be so hurtful. They have always been that way, you just started to see them and your situation differently.
Once you can accept that this person is not who you think they are, and that the love they offered you was conditional or toxic, you start to feel indifferent towards them.
Only God knows and sees everything, if you continually pray and ask God for help and guidance, He will direct your steps.
Pray every time you feel like you are alone or hurting. Ask God to take away your pain and ask Him to restore you to the beautiful and wonderful person He created you to be.
Sometimes praying seems to be the last thing we want to do, but it is amazing that after you pray, God starts to work things out for your good.
